CAN AN OLD LAPTOP BATTERY BE REFILLED?
No. There are companies claiming that they can refill your old notebook battery.
What they do is breaking up your battery pack and replacing the old cells with some unchecked and unbalanced cells.
The circuit board of your old pack is then recycled and reused (If the board is still working after all the abusive actions when opening the pack).
What is wrong? On the circuit board of a smart laptop battery is a fuel gauge circuit, which communicates with you notebook computer to tell it
when to start or stop charging the battery and how much power is left in you battery pack. Since the circuit is designed and calibrated with your old cells,
it does not work properly with the new (refilled) cells. It does not only reduce the operational life of the refilled cells but also create fire hazard caused by the
improper charge and discharge control. There is one more hazard for Li-Ion batteries. A protection circuit is needed for each cell inside the pack which
provides over charge and discharge protection. If the new refilled cells do not match with the circuit, explosion will be happened if there is
malfunction on either the laptop or the fuel gauge circuit.
